M23 Abandoned/Unused Bridge

Hello again Tony, Inspired by these shots I went and explored round here myself (I always remember this junction from trips to London as a kid. I used to wonder when they would finish it off...) I found remains of the southbound M23 - A23 slip that you don't mention on your site. Would you like to see the pictures?

Great maps (in the fantasy roads section)! I have many of these too. Don't you think that they have a bit too many motorways and too little side-streets though?

Great site. Great pics. And the maps!!! Brill. Still too many roundabouts though.

Steps Across The Medway: The M2 Medway Bridges

Medway Bridges - what a fantastic set of photos. Stumbled across these whilst looking for something else. I've lived 0.5 mile from M2 J3 for the last 15yrs and have never made the effort to walk across the bridge! We endured the 4yrs of roadworks during the J1-J4 widening. The work at J3 was the most complex and lasted the complete project. You're right about the lightweight gracefulness of the two new bridges. I seem to recall reading somewhere the old '63 bridge is heavier than the two new bridges combined, or something like that. Converting it to coastbound only involved redecking it for the run-off to go toward the cycle way only. Previously it was raised slightly in the middle, running off to both sides. Good photos; enjoyed looking at them. James

Hallo Tony, Enjoyed browsing your shots of the three Medway bridges. My grandfather and great-grandfather used to sail those waters long before such structures were conceived, let alone built. In those now far off days they used 'hufflers' to drop the mast of their barge to traverse the old Rochester rail and road bridges. By contrast they could sail under the new ones with ease and would be quite 'blown away' by the changes on 'their' river. Could he but see them my grandfather would have a grand view from where he now rests in Cuxton cemetery! Kind regards, Peter.

The old Kingsferry lifting bridge seen with the new bridge in the background. A visitor to the site has mentioned that the embankment in the left foreground (with the car parked on it) is actually the remains of the approach road to the first bridge demolished in 1960 when the 1959 bridge opened.

Tony, Did you know that where the cars are parked on the left (in photo 51) is the approach to the previous bridge that was replaced in 1960? You can see some of the old road if you walk through where the table and chairs were set up (if the gate is open!)

Looks very like the Friarton Bridge just east of Perth which is part of the M90 and was opened in 1978 (I think).
